The last day of the USATF Junior National T&F Championships took place Sunday and the results presented were the perfect way to end an excellent weekend. Six Junior National champions Sunday were high school athletes, including Jordan Hasay (CA), Rachel Laurent (LA), Ryan Fleck (OH), Ryann Krais (PA), Geoffrey Tabor (OK) and Laurynne Chetelat (CA). Cory Leslie was named the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year for boys track and field.  Cory had an outstanding year, highlighted by winning the Boys HS mile at the prestigious Penn Relays (just like the Ohio girls Gatorade Player of  the Year, Stephanie Morgan).   Cory, like Stephanie, also won both the 1600m and 800m at the OHSAA Division II Boys State Championship. Cory won the 1600m in 4:12.44, but more impressively he came back and won the 800m by setting a new PR of 1:50.77 with less than an hour of rest.

OHRunners would like to congratulate Cory Leslie on his terrific year and for recieving this Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year for boys track and field.

The 114th Annual Penn Relays this past weekend was a site to behold. With numerous meet records broken, the second largest attendance ever and near perfect weather, every event seemed to produce a few moments perfect for a 2008 track and field highlight reel. **U.S. Girls 4x800m Relay Record: Eleanor Roosevelt (MD) in 8:43.12!!!

Friday just keeps on getting better. In the girls 4x800m relay, Holmwood Tech (Jamaica) beat Eleanor Roosevelt (MD) (photo left by Tim Fulton) 8:41.52-8:43.12 in a simply perfect race. Eleanor Roosevelt's performance broke the U.S. record by seven seconds. Eleanor Roosevelt then came back to win the 4x400m relay in 3:37.16.

Thursday marked day one of the high school portion of the Penn Relays. Topping the way in the highlights Thursday was Ryann Krais' (PA) (pictured above by Don Rich) big 400m hurdle win in 59.62. Edwin Allen (Jamaica) ran 45.28 in the 4x100m relay for the top time of the day and Eleanor Roosevelt (MD) ran 3:38.40 in the girls 4x400m relay, top advancing time of the day! Stephanie Morgan (Left) of Barnesville, and Emily Infeld of Beaumont finished 1-2 in the Girls 1 Mile Run at the Penn Relays on Thursday. Morgan finished with a time of 4:41.22 while Infeld followed with a 4:43.31.

Cor Leslie (Right) of Sandusky Perkins won the Boys 1 Mile Run in a time of 4:12.76 completing the Ohio sweep in the Mile.

It was the first busy weekend for Ohio Indoor Track and Field with seven different meets taking to the track to heat up the competition for qualifying to the state meet. Many great performances were ran, jump and thrown this weekend. Click on the title to read about each meet.

Global Athletics officially announced today the elite boys mile field for the Boston Indoor Games on January 26.  The mile field may very well be the best boys mile field assembled during the indoor track season, with four of the top five finishers at Foot Locker Nationals participating and four of the top six returnees in the event from last spring.

Despite the NCAA dropping the early decision option for high school athletes prior to the 2007-2008 school year, the top distance runners are committing themselves to their future college in large numbers.
